Depending on your age, you may recall what it was like when you first heard the term internet, and World Wide Web. In 1990 few people considered how the internet would change the entire world, including graphic design trends. In 1990 a graphic design company was doing really well if they developed an interactive advertisement for TV. Then came this really unique and popular thing, called the World Wide Web. It caught on pretty quickly, and before long retailers began to see what the future was, and it was all www….
Of course, where there was an influx of retailers, there would also be an influx of advertisements, thus creating the need for firms, such as Lien Design, in San Diego, CA., to enter into this new trend of web design. As it all began, advertisers reached out to consumers where ever they were, and where they were, was on the internet. Graphic design trends took a whole new turn, and waded into creating designs for the World Wide Web. Those distracting highway billboards that were considered interactive and would flip in sections, giving the illusion of the person or picture being mobile, were slowly diminishing, and being replaced by unique www graphic designs. A whole new world of graphic designs was being created, and it was no longer on a billboard, or a magazine page.
At the time, it wow’d an audience, the designs were impressive to the audience behind those giant computer monitors. When waiting for dial up, and while listening to the pings, a slow display of harsh colors would appear, advertising a product. By today's standards, one would assume a first grader came up with the design, however, at the time it was actually experts from popular companies. The very limited graphic design trends were impressive for the era, which was a good thing because they were slow, very slow. Before moving on, you got to stare at these designs for quite some time, and let's face it, we all thought, “wow, how did they do that?” 1996 introduced the birth of “Flash”, which brought with it a world of possibilities. Consumers could see graphic designs as never before, and it proved to be an attention grabber from the start.
The millennium came along, and graphic design trends came along as well, with improvements to the whole internet design concept. Colors became more realistic, at least by the standards of that day. Anyone today would look at those designs from Y2k, and assume it was a joke. That is how far graphic design trends have come. The designs that would take over a computer monitor ¼ page, ½ page, and eventually a full page, were slow, however they were there, and they were catching on. Today theses impressive designs pop up instantly, and in your face, they simply cannot be ignored.
Lien Design and other established graphic design firms undoubtedly took a very close look at the internet, as a way to develop, and produce up and coming graphic design trends. Web pages now load at record speeds, and design elements can be implemented in a way to attract consumers. The possibility of designs was endless, gone were the days of HTML, it was a new world for graphic design trends.
The goal in advertising is to bring relevant design and information to the targeted consumer, and if that aspect fails, you are essentially left in the dust. One may assume there is no way to improve over current technology and design, however, as history demonstrates, there will be improvements.
